What are your Top 5 Favorite Movies? Please post in the comment section below. Mine are: 5. Taxi Driver (1976) Director: Martin Scorsese Stars: Robert De Niro, Cybill Shepard, Harvey Keitel, and Jodie Foster Why it's a favorite: Taxi Driver forged the best director-actor duo ever with Scorsese and De Niro. It's dark, hard-hitting, and always compelling. It's also very funny, iconic, and has many great musical moments (courtesy of the late Bernard Herrmann). Never has there been a better independent film. De Niro gives one of the best screen performances of all time as the disturbed taxi driver. "You talkin' to me?" 4. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966)   Director: Sergio Leone Stars: Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach   Why it's a favorite: This movie is the godfather of westerns. It's old and long but don't let that turn you off. It's extremely entertaining, and epic. It has one of the best

First Man Review

Neil Armstrong finally gets a biopic in Damien Chazelle's epic "First Man." Chazelle does justice with a practical, honorable, and accurate account of the Apollo 11 space mission to the Moon. However, the movie did not entertain with its thin characterizations, emotional detachment, suspenseless climax, and very boring family narrative. "First Man" features some thrilling space scenes which utilizes film stock and IMAX 70mm. If Chazelle decided to use digital and CGI all the special effects, then he would have been left with a POS movie. The space scenes employ shaky cam, and pitch perfect sound design. During the launches, it sounded like the space craft would break apart, adding to the intensity of the scene. The score by "La La Land" composer Justin Hurwitz was jazzy, musical-like and at times searingly epic. I couldn't help but compare the score to another epic space movie "Interstellar." Justin Hurwitz's music was good but no whe

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Review

Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film features some of the biggest superstars in the business. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt really are the best duo since Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is worth watching just for the epic star power along with Tarantino's signature killer soundtrack. Tarantino is known to subvert norms and create controversy. He does so here, but to a lesser satisfying degree.  When news first hit about Tarantino doing an old Hollywood piece centering around the Manson murders of 1969, one could assume he’d be doing another wild over-the-top bloodbath with snappy dialogue, entertaining storytelling and iconic moments. While the Mansons and Sharon Tate are present in the film, their roles are disappointingly underrepresented. Sharon Tate (played gleefully by Margot Robbie) does not do much throughout the movie but watch her own films. The Manson ranch is shown but Charlie Manson is only present for five seconds. These people vital to th

Blog for Fomo Project

Journal 8/29 -- Sunrise I wake up a little earlier than usual. Typically, I'll check my phone for any messages. But today I cannot do that. So instead I just lay there thinking about what I am going to do next. I meditate as I feel some intrusive thoughts entering. I then think what I will eat for breakfast. After a while I conclude that this 5 day vacation from social media will be a challenge. It won't be too threatening though because I was never that active on social media to begin with. Sometimes when I am bored I will do what is called free writing exercises. So journaling about life and it's components is something that I am used to. After I sit here writing all of this down I know I will be tempted to check Facebook one time. When facing urges to do things I typically say a private saying to myself to overcome the urge. Grade: A 8/30 -- sunset Today I will be journaling about the sunset. I have so far been good about not checking the social media. I have ha
